A Farmingville Elementary community MURAL!

  1. As a celebration of Farmingville's 50th Anniversary, every student at FES participated in the creation of a commemorative mural. To prepare, Mrs. Penney first explained what a mural was:
  2. mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent surface. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture.
  3. To prepare for it's creation some students created paper mosaics while others painted sheets of paper with acrylic paint that would be used to create the mural.

  4. Mrs. Penney designed the mural and enlarged it using a grid method then painted it in a gray scale (Grayscale is a range of shades of gray without apparent color).

  5.  The painted paper was cut into various sizes and added by the students one piece at a time to create a large scale paper mosaic (Mosaic is thart of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials).

  7. On view at our 5th grade graduation!
Stay tuned...the mural is scheduled to be installed over the summer and will be ready to greet our community and welcome back our students as they enter our building in August 2015.
