1st Grade Fall Landscapes

In their art class, 1st graders learned about landscapes and how to use a horizon line in their artwork to create a sense of depth and space.We also looked at the artwork of textile designer and illustrator Eloise Renouf for inspiration. 

To create their fall landscapes, students first created a painted paper background using cool colors. Farmingville artists also created other painted papers to be used as shapes for their trees later on.

Students traced and cut out shapes for their trees and used printing not painting to create branches.

 They then collaged their tree shapes and grass using overlapping…added some more printing for trunks and ta-da...fantastic collaged landscapes!

Imagination Station

There is a new feature in the art room this year that our FES artists are really sinking their teeth into...
Imagination Station!

Our Imagination Station is an  area for students to go and work when they have finished their artwork and others are still working. They can choose from a variety of activities...

Chromebooks:

For art related research or Art Games.

Assorted Paper:

To draw out ideas and free draw!

Drawing Books & Origami:

In the drawers and on the shelves.

Table Sized White Boards:

To use separately or together on the floor or a table.

Expo Markers:

For our awesome table sized white boards.

Many of the classes have been introduced to it and so far it’s a hit!

I will be adding and switching out different activities over the course of the year to keep it fresh...the kids are loving it so far!

“Community” Murals

These are just a few snapshots of the collage murals created by our 2016-2017 K-5 community in June 2017. These amazing works of art welcomed our students back for our 2017-18 school year!

 Painted paper that our Farmingville art students painted were used to create a variety of subject matter in our “Community” murals. Students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade created piles of houses, community buildings, cars, alternative dwellings, flowers, trees, bugs and clouds.

 

We used recycled bulletin board paper for our backgrounds and students worked collaboratively to compose the components together to create large an imaginary “community” mural...although you may see some familiar places.

Welcome to our Art Room 2017-2018!

 I am just so excited for our Farmingville artists to get working this year. We are off to a fantastic start and have already talked about how Farmingville C.A.R.E.S. in the art room AND gotten our hands a little dirty too!

Yes we painted on the very first day!

We painted on the very first day...everyone had such a great time. Students have been asked to  "DRESS FOR MESS" on art days. The students know what this means...basically they should try not to wear their newest, nicest, favorite outfit on art days. 

As you walk through the hallways you will see out "community murals" that we made at the end of last year for the very purpose of welcoming everyone back for the new school year. Farmingville artists had soooo much fun creating them, If you are visiting please look for the black bulletin boards to spot some!

Embossed Foil Flowers

4th grade artist study...

While Georgia O'Keeffe created artwork with many different subjects, she was most well known for her paintings of flowers close up. Our 4^th graders looked closely at the artists’ work and created artwork inspired by O’Keefe’s sometimes subtle and sometimes bold use of color using a foil paper embossing technique.

First Students chose a flower from a selection of photos Mrs. Penney had in the art room. They then drew them on cardboard and carefully glued yarn to each line.

Using foil paper they spread glue on the surface and gently pressed and smoothed it to reveal the yarn underneath...

then covered with black tempera and burnished most of it away.

The last step was to add color with sharpie markers.

Visiting Artist 2017!

3rd Grade

Artist in Residence...

This year our Farmingville artists received a visit from artist

Chris Shore from the

Center for Contemporary in Norwalk, Ct.

Each 3rd grade class came to the art room for a 60 minute workshop where they used printmaking to create multiple works of art using the gelli print process. 

Students utilized primary colors and different textures to create one of a kind monoprints.

This amazing work will be on display at our art show on May 25th in our makers space.

A HUGE thank you goes out to our amazing PTA for funding this experience!

Fresh & Fruity!

1st Grade Still Life
Farmingville's First Grade artists have been studying the “Still Life” as a subject matter. Our artist's looked closely at a variety of still life works of art and compared them to other types of subject matter.
To begin their art exploration they created a still life painting of apples on a plate. They then each created a mini still life out of clay utilizing hand building methods such as pinch, pull & coil.

 

With attention to technique in the medium and proportion of the subject each student created a bowl of strawberries, blueberries & whipped cream!!!

An artwork showing an arrangement of objects that cannot move on their own, such as fruit or flowers. Typically the arrangement is set up by the artist.

5th Grade Artist Study: Georgia O'Keeffe...

Skulls in the Desert...

 While Georgia O'Keeffe was most well known for her paintings of flowers close up, the artist painted many other types of subject matter as well. Our 5^th graders looked closely at the artists’ work and created artwork inspired by O’Keeffe’s Skull paintings.

To begin students created painted paper with liquid tempera and tempera cakes for use as their backgrounds and antlers. 

They created the skull shapes by tracing around their names and added shading with charcoal to create a symmetrical skull. 

After collaging the elements together some students also chose to create flowers utilizing folded tissue paper for added interest.
