Pizza! Pizza!

Feeling hungry? Well these Pizza's may look good enough to eat but watch out...you might break a tooth!

Farmingville's 3rd grade artists created these mouth watering pizza's out out of clay.

Having learned the techniques of pinch and pull as well as coiling in 1st and second grades, this year we focused on using clay slabs - clay that the students rolled out flat and then manipulated. Extra cheese, pepperoni, olives, meatballs, pineapple...the kids went all out. Here is a look... check out these toppings.

Pepperoni and Bacon!

Art Under the Stars...

On January 18 the  Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art hosted a one night only exhibition...featuring the art work of our amazing 3rd graders district wide.

The works of art featured were a result of our district-wide IDEA (Innovative Design
Explorations in Art) unit.
As inspiration, 3rd Graders visited the museum
earlier this year as a kick off to this work. Each school was then visited by the
Museum’s education staff to get the projects started. Below are a few images of the displays from each school...

Branchville Elementary School
Barlow Mountain Elementary School
Farmingville Elementary School
Veterans Park Elementary School
Ridgebury Elementary School
Scottland Elementary School

This spectacular "Art Under the Stars" event shone a spotlight on our 3rd graders, making them the "Stars" of their own gallery experience.

Over 700 people came out to view and support our artists- thank you to all who were able to make it.

Thanks also goes out to the amazing museum staff at the Aldrich Museum for their partnership, our parent volunteers, our PTA and to each and every one of our parents and fellow teachers and colleagues who supported us and helped to make this event possible.

Artist in Residence!

Back to school, back to creating!

This week upon returning back to school after our winter break we hit the ground running with our Artist in Residence Wednesday through Friday.

Artist Richard Price spent three days with us creating amazing murals for our cafetorium that featured artwork created by our very own Farmingville students. Not only did the murals feature student drawings but each and every student was able to have time to work on and paint the murals. We were even able to create 5 mini-murals that will be installed in other areas of the school.

Student drawings were transferred onto large panels. Templates were used to keep colors and patterns centralized.

 Once completed they looked amazing.

 Some close ups....

We even created some mini-murals for other areas of the school!

A HUGE thank you to our PTA for funding and supporting this amazing opportunity for our students.
