The 5th Grade Slump...

5th Grade Clay
Fifth grade students used hand building clay methods to create slumped slab (also called draped) bowls and trays. Each student rolled their own slab and then added various textures. After they were bisque fired students then created the glazing technique you see here by choosing a dark glaze color and after applying it, sponged off most of it only leaving color in the textures they created. They then choose a second lighter color and glazed over the first. Take a look at the before and after pictures below as well as some individual images of some finished pieces!

Youth Art Month Exhbit

Elementary Artwork Exhibit @ Ridgefield Recreation Center!
The exhibit on view is a celebration of Youth Art Month by the Ridgefield Elementary Art Department, in partnership with the Ridgefield Recreation Center. A selection of student artwork from each of the elementary schools showcases the work of young artists in our community.  The exhibit will be on display through April 30th.  
Youth Art Month encourages support for quality school art programs and promotes art material safety.  The program provides a medium for recognizing the unique skills developed through the visual arts including:
Problem solving
Creativity
Observation
Communication
