Skulls in the Desert...
While Georgia
O'Keeffe was most well known for her paintings of flowers close up, the artist
painted many other types of subject matter as well. Our 5th graders
looked closely at the artists’ work and created artwork inspired by O’Keeffe’s
Skull paintings.
To begin students created painted paper with liquid tempera and tempera
cakes for use as their backgrounds and antlers.
They created the skull shapes by tracing around their names and added shading with charcoal to create a
symmetrical skull.
After collaging the elements together some students also
chose to create flowers utilizing folded tissue paper for added interest.
