Remote Learning Art Supply Suggestions...

Welcome back to an exciting year of creating at Ridgebury and Farmingville Elementary Schools!

I am so excited to see all of  my art students both in person and virtually.

If you were wondering "Should I have any art supplies at home?" and "Which ones would I need?"

I have you covered.

Below I have offered some guidance on what some of our most popular supplies are along with some links. These links are offered as guidance and by no means does this exact item need to be what you end up with but these are brands and supplies we use regularly and I know them to be of good quality.

So...IF you are remote learning or interested in purchasing your own personal set of frequently used art supplies please see the suggested list below for guidance. This is not required but an option. The art supplies can be kept at home during distance/remote learning or go back and forth to school with your child.

FES Community: Hearts Across Ridgefield

image.png
πŸ’•Hearts Across Ridgefield
Mrs. Penney would like to share information on a community project we are doing across the 6 elementary schools. Participation is optional. If your child or entire family would like to participate in it please read on:

πŸ’—We are calling it Hearts across Ridgefield

πŸ’—We are joining communities across the nation to share our own messages of hope, unity & kindness.

πŸ’—You can create one heart or a bunch.

πŸ’—You can make your hearts out of different materials. To hear Mrs. Penney talk about it and see some examples click here.

πŸ’—You can put them in your windows or on your door but if your home can’t be seen from the street maybe consider putting them on a mailbox or in a tree.

πŸ’—Images of the hearts can be taken with your child's chromebook and put directly on out Farmingville πŸ’•Hearts Across Ridgefield PADLET.

πŸ’—For instructions on how to add your photo and use PADLET click here.

πŸ’—The Link for the PADLET is here.

πŸ’—Students can also access these links in thier google classrooms under Classwork/Other Resources.

Guided Drawing...Rocket Ships!

So I went live a week or so ago on IG (@the_artroom_at_fes) and did a tutorial on how to draw rocket ships. Some of my kiddos may have missed it and so, as promised I wanted to recreate a little something like it so all of them could check it out.
Here you go!

Will You Accept the Challenge?

21 Day Drawing Challenge....

Hello Farmingville Community. Today at school I started to put together a worksheet for a 21 day drawing challenge. I finished it from home this afternoon and am so excited to be able to share it with you here.

Here's how it works: Each day you draw the prompt for the day you are on from the sheet. You don't need any fancy supplies...a pencil or a pen and a piece of paper...that's it!
Image result for sketchbpok and pencil
I am going to try to follow along too and will be sure to post mine on instagram @the_artroom_at_fes.
Feel free to bring your drawings in and share them with me when we return to school.

Parents...this isn't just for kids...in case you were thinking of that in you head.

Pizza! Pizza!

Feeling hungry? Well these Pizza's may look good enough to eat but watch out...you might break a tooth!

Farmingville's 3rd grade artists created these mouth watering pizza's out out of clay.

Having learned the techniques of pinch and pull as well as coiling in 1st and second grades, this year we focused on using clay slabs - clay that the students rolled out flat and then manipulated. Extra cheese, pepperoni, olives, meatballs, pineapple...the kids went all out. Here is a look... check out these toppings.

Mac & Cheese

Meatballs

Pepperoni and Bacon!
...and more bacon!

Art Under the Stars...

On January 18 the  Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art hosted a one night only exhibition...featuring the art work of our amazing 3rd graders district wide.

The works of art featured were a result of our district-wide IDEA (Innovative Design
Explorations in Art) unit.
As inspiration, 3rd Graders visited the museum
earlier this year as a kick off to this work. Each school was then visited by the
Museum’s education staff to get the projects started. Below are a few images of the displays from each school...

Branchville Elementary School
Barlow Mountain Elementary School
Farmingville Elementary School
Veterans Park Elementary School
Ridgebury Elementary School
Scottland Elementary School

This spectacular "Art Under the Stars" event shone a spotlight on our 3rd graders, making them the "Stars" of their own gallery experience.

Over 700 people came out to view and support our artists- thank you to all who were able to make it.

Thanks also goes out to the amazing museum staff at the Aldrich Museum for their partnership, our parent volunteers, our PTA and to each and every one of our parents and fellow teachers and colleagues who supported us and helped to make this event possible.

Artist in Residence!

Back to school, back to creating!

This week upon returning back to school after our winter break we hit the ground running with our Artist in Residence Wednesday through Friday.

Artist Richard Price spent three days with us creating amazing murals for our cafetorium that featured artwork created by our very own Farmingville students. Not only did the murals feature student drawings but each and every student was able to have time to work on and paint the murals. We were even able to create 5 mini-murals that will be installed in other areas of the school.

Student drawings were transferred onto large panels. Templates were used to keep colors and patterns centralized.

 Once completed they looked amazing.

 Some close ups....

We even created some mini-murals for other areas of the school!

A HUGE thank you to our PTA for funding and supporting this amazing opportunity for our students.
